The 30 lb Amerex High Performance dry chemical extinguishers — 715, 718, 792 and 796 — stand 26.5 inches tall on an 8-inch cylinder, at a published shipping weight of 56 lb. Bolt one to a haul truck deck and the cylinder is not the part working hardest. The bracket is, and Amerex's own maintenance procedure treats it as a replaceable item.
Amerex builds a dry chemical line for this duty and publishes a bracket for every cylinder diameter in it. The two families that sound alike — High Performance and High-Flow — differ in warranty, in operating pressure at the large sizes, and in bracket list.
What Amerex means by "High Performance"
Owner's service manual P/N 05616 covers the galvanized and Z-Series 6 kg, 10, 20 and 30 lb dry chemical extinguishers. They "have been designed and manufactured to accommodate the rigorous needs of environmental extremes and heavy industrial use." The catalog is blunter: "Z-Series extinguishers are the ultimate choice in fire extinguishers for high hazard, frequent use, and extreme environment applications." Its applications page assigns the Z-Series to oil and gas, chemical, distribution centers, and the heavy tier of industrial work.
Pressure is the first tell. Per the manual, "the 6kg, 20 lb, & 30lb extinguishers operate at 240 psi (1655 kPa) and the 10 lb extinguishers operate at 195 psi (1344 kPa) pressure and are intended for use by trained fire fighters." Every standard ABC dry chemical portable in the catalog, aluminum valve and brass valve alike, is listed at 195 PSIG — so 240 psi belongs to the large sizes of this line and nothing else.
That pressure buys range, and it comes with an obligation: the higher discharge velocity "dictates formal training for development of proper fire fighting techniques." The manual publishes effective range of agent throw as 40–50 feet for the 6 kg, 20 lb and 30 lb extinguishers and 15–20 feet for the 10 lb; the catalog's table lists the 10 lb 711 and 712 at 15–21 feet. Operating temperature range is −65° to +120°F, and Amerex has "extended our warranty to 12 years" on this line.
Inside it, the catalog files Fast Flow (790–796) under "High flow rate," "Quicker knockdown" and "More operator protection," and Compliance Flow (711–718) under "Long range" and "Highest UL ratings." The Parts Book adds what the catalog leaves out: a single list serves "6 Kg - 30 lb. Dry Chemical High Performance and Z-Series Models," splitting the galvanized 5xx-series High Performance models from the Z-Series 713–718 and 790–796, which carry "a proprietary, zinc-enriched coating that resists corrosion for up to 12 years in severely salt-contaminated environments."
High-Flow is a different line, not a trim level
The four High-Flow models — 720 and 760 in ABC, 722 and 762 in Purple K — carry their own definition, printed under the heading "HIGH-FLOW—EXCEEDS 1 LB. PER SECOND DISCHARGE RATE":
"HIGH-FLOW portable fire extinguishers are for applications where discharge rates exceeding one pound per second are required as specified in NFPA 10. These extinguishers utilize the same hardware and are manufactured to the same UL specifications as Amerex compliance-rated products."
That last sentence is the part buyers miss. High-Flow does not run at the 240 psi the 6 kg, 20 and 30 lb High Performance units do. The catalog lists all four at 195 PSIG with a 6-year warranty rather than 12, and gives them the same brackets it publishes for the standard brass-valve 10 lb and 20 lb models. What Amerex claims for the line: "Twice the flow rate of standard models," a chrome-plated brass valve body, "Meets DOT requirements," and −65°F to 120°F.
When a specification hands you a required discharge rate rather than a rating, this is the line written for it. Sizing: Class B Protection, 40-B to 160-B.

Read the 10 lb rows together. The High-Flow 720 empties in 10 seconds at 1.22 lb/sec, rated 1A:20B:C. The Compliance Flow 711 — same 10 lb of ABC — takes 22 seconds at 0.50 lb/sec, rated 4A:80B:C: four times the Class B rating from the same agent and capacity. That is the trade Amerex's own bullets name, "Highest UL ratings" against "Quicker knockdown."
At 2.00 lb/sec the Purple K 795 carries the highest average discharge rate Amerex publishes for any hand portable. At the other end, the 715 at 10A:160B:C and the 718 at 160B:C carry the highest Class B ratings listed for any hand portable in the catalog. For the agent argument: Purple K vs ABC Dry Chemical.
The bracket is the part the truck attacks
Amerex treats bracket fit as a maintenance item. Step 12 of the annual maintenance procedure in P/N 05616 reads: "If the extinguisher has been moved to perform service, replace it on the wall hanger or in the vehicle bracket making sure it fits the bracket properly. Replace the bracket if necessary."
Every Amerex bracket meets the UL salt spray requirement the catalog publishes and carries a one-year warranty — against 12 years on the Z-Series cylinder it holds. Selection is by cylinder diameter, and Amerex publishes the pairing outright.

The 20 lb High-Flow and the 20 lb Z-Series share a vehicle bracket but not a wall bracket. Both are 7-inch cylinders in the 810 family, but the High-Flow units ship with an 803 wall bracket, the Z-Series with an 877.
No dry chemical High Performance model uses a 6-inch bracket. The line steps 5 in. to 7 in. to 8 in., so the 812 belongs to the 6-inch Halotron I 397 and 398 — the only models the catalog names — not to a 20 lb dry chemical cylinder. Amerex's Parts Book publishes no finish for it; we stock both galvanized red and black.
The 861H is the heavy-duty option below the High Performance range. Amerex lists it among the Vehicle/Marine/Aviation brackets and as a USCG bracket for 4.25-inch cylinders — the 5 lb B402, B500, B424, B479 and B386T. Box-type, zinc-undercoated, galvanized
The catalog's heavy-duty box-type vehicle bracket group is the 807, 809, 812, 895, 810, 810CG, 810NM and 811, with the 809G, 810G and 811G shown separately. One caution on the 895: the Parts Book files it among the Vehicle/Marine brackets instead, as "All 6 lb., 10 lb. Aluminum & Brass Valve Models" — order it by that capacity description, not by the catalog's grouping. Two published notes decide the finish. "Models 809, 810, and 811 are also available with an optional zinc primer undercoat (809Z / 810Z / 811Z)" — the 809Z, 810Z and 811Z. And over that group, "Red Brackets are Galvanized." The G models are the Z-Series option "Hot-dip galvanized USCG brackets available," and the chart's USCG bracket for the 7- and 8-inch cylinders — though corrosion resistance and approval are separate questions, as our guide to the USCG bracket named on the label sets out.
Strap brackets and the parts that go individually
Amerex's heavy-duty rubber-strap brackets are the 860, 862 and 864. The 862 is the strap option listed for the 5-inch dry chemical cylinders, including the High-Flow 720 and 722. The 864 covers the 20 lb and 30 lb units — the 7-inch 714, 717, 791, 794, 795, 760 and 762, and the 8-inch 715, 718, 792 and 796. There is no rubber-strap option listed for the 13.2 lb (6 kg) models or for the 711 and 712.
Straps and grommets are sold as parts in their own right, and the Parts Book lists them by bracket: 07166-P rubber strap for the 860 and 862; 07802-P for the 864 and the 859 dolly; 01990-P rubber grommet bumper for the 807, 809, 810, 811, 812 and 860; 13958-P for the 810G, 811G, 862, 864 and 859; 06858-P for the 861H, 846, 889 and 889HB; 13888-P pull pin and chain for box-type brackets; and the 09584 High Performance hanger loop.
Gauges follow pressure, not just the line. The Parts Book puts 05225-P (240 PSI) on the 6 kg to 30 lb High Performance and Z-Series list, and 03965-P (195 PSI) on the separate High-Flow list (720, 722, 760, 762). P/N 05616 names both for a defective gauge — "(PN 05225 240 psi) or (PN 03965 195 psi)" — but it covers only the High Performance line, whose 195 psi models are the 10 lb 711 and 712. So the 711 and 712 take the 03965-P; every other High Performance and Z-Series unit takes the 05225-P. Brass valve alone does not decide it — full table in our Amerex gauge cross-reference.
Where the 50-foot rule lands, and where wheeled units take over
Amerex's installation rule for this line is a standoff, not a proximity rule, and it is written for the hand portables themselves. P/N 05616: "Do not place this extinguisher close to a potential fire hazard. Amerex recommends location no less than a 50 foot distance from a potential hazard while leaving an unobstructed access." That is the opposite of what Amerex prints for standard portables — "accessible to possible fire hazards and preferably near an exit," P/N 27794 — and the 40–50 ft throw is what makes the standoff workable. At a fixed fueling point or laydown yard it is the operative instruction. On mobile equipment, where the hazard travels with the machine, the half that governs is the second: unobstructed access, and a mount the operator reaches without working over the hazard.
Thirty pounds is the largest dry chemical hand portable Amerex catalogs, and above it the line continues on wheels — the Z-Series is "AVAILABLE IN 125-AND 250-LB. WHEELED EXTINGUISHERS."
